Another Fun Weekend

This week, I couldn't think of anything to write.  Instead, I am just posting another weekend of pictures for you to see.  At the end of this post will be a link to a secret video!  All you have to do is answer 3 questions and you will find the link to a video that you will not want to miss out on.  Do you realize how horrible it would be if all of your friends and family were tweeting and posting to Facebook their excitement about the video you didn't watch because you didn't want to answer 3 questions?

The order of the pictures is backwards.  We went to the park Saturday morning, and slept in the tent Friday night.

Steve's Tent. Setting it up.

Had to get the chickens in.
John boy and Tigger in John's sleeping bag from the bowlins

Putting things away.

Steve testing the best hard ground to sleep on.

Coleman grill and coffee percolating.

Waiting for coffee still.

Still waiting.

Yay! Coffee! He really had coffee. Half a mug.

Where we slept.

Man Made Cloud in Chapel

HORN - A white cloud in a white chapel. Just a moment and then it disappeared. Artist Berndnaut Smilde announced on Thursday clouds in the Hoorn Lady Chapel, for a fascinated public. Bell 17 hours the first cloud floats through the chapel. Shortly before has Smilde spraying the room with plants considerably blurred. With a touch he lets some smoke escape. The water binds to the smoke. Magically, the cumulus cloud is almost perfect. Joe is excited Neefjes. 'This is sensational. I do not often get the shivers, but I do now.''

I used Google Translate to translate the video description from Dutch to English. I have no idea what they are saying in the video but you get to see a guy make a cloud in a chapel using smoke and some kind of spray.

From: Here - which is in Dutch.

Don't Kill Ants (Unless they are a Pain) - Pyrion Flax

The beginning of where I chose to start the video is where Pyrion Flax explains to his kid that ant genocide is bad, unless the ants are where you don't want them.

Obviously, humans are in dominion over animals... don't get confused.

Warning, immature language

Love Drop - March 2011

Last month the Love Drop Team raised over $13,000 (and 3 iPads!) to help two little boys with autism receive a service dog. They were beyond touched, and we did this in only 1 month - that's it. Everyone came together and gave a few bucks each to impact one family's life. If you were a part of it, THANK YOU!  You can check out the final video of us showing up to their house here - it's pretty cool.
This month we start all over again and rally behind Katiea single mom out in Dallas battling not only two brain tumors so far (she's knocked out one, and currently working on the other), but who's also dealing with hydrocephalus. We'd love to bring the community her way, and make a huge dent in her medical bills.
Wanna help?  Here are 3 ways we could use you:
  1. Give $1.00 - This is the best way to help out and join our team at the same time.
  2. Join our blogger network - Blog about our Love Drops each month like I am :) It's easy, it's rewarding, and it REALLY helps spread the word (which in turn helps our families). Love Drop will give you all the content you need.
  3. Give a gift or provide a service - Gift cards are always helpful. Places like Target, Safeway, gas stations, etc would definitely help them out.

John Piper Inspired Music

There are a list of 12 John Piper inspired songs on the Desiring God website which were originally listed on the Challies website. I put the ones I could find on Spotify in a playlist (HERE)

It is a Collaborative playlist, so if you know of others, please add them.

Below is a great John Piper song and video that is not on Spotify.

Instrument

After watching a video the other day on 22 Words (not the one below but one like it), I commented on Facebook that glasses would be a cheap instrument to play or something like that. The today while using Google Reader's recommended items, I found this little charm: Set of Musical Glasses. How awesome are these things?

Ghosts in the Bottle

John boy is a pretty hard boy to trick. He has a Mickey Mouse magic book that I read when I was around his age and so I thought I would show him a trick our two. He had already figured out how to make a magic wand using construction paper. He had actually looked at the book, "read" the picture instructions and then put the book away and made the wand. It was pretty impressive.

So, I borrowed his wand and said that if it was real it would float. I put the wand against my left hand with my fingers open and wrapped my right hand around my wrist and the wand was floating! (Mystery revealed below). He was pretty amazed. He picked up the wand and opened his hand and the wand fell to the floor. I explained that since he was eating pizza, maybe his greasy hand couldn't make the wand stick. He accepted that and went on eating.

After he ate I was made to show him again. This time as the wand floated he realized that one of my fingers on my right had was not wrapped around my wrist as the others. Yup, I was holding the wand against my left palm with my right index finger. Busted.

Later in the evening I did something John boy can not explain away. I took a glass Coke bottle and put it in the freezer. After the boys bathed, I took out the bottle, set it on the table and put a penny on top. The whole evening I was telling John that we can catch a ghost in the bottle in the freezer... because that is where they hang out. While he took a bath I told him that ghosts were not real. He would ask how he would see a ghost later and I would say they are not real. Then he would ask how we could trap them in a bottle if they were not real, to which I would respond that he would have to wait and see. Fun times.

After the bath, the bottle in place, a ghost was mysteriously hitting the bottom of the penny trying to escape! I took a video... but it did not work for some reason. Maybe I will record it tomorrow night. Over and over again the ghost would hit the penny trying to get out. The boys thought it was pretty nifty.

Random 01-25-10

Every morning, right before I head off to work, I open the little door that keeps unwanted guests out of the chicken coop during the night.  Then I open the giant door and change the water and check the feeder to be sure they have enough food for a while.  The above video shows the chickens getting out for their morning exercise and beginning their day of hunting for food, bathing in dust, battling for leadership roles, running to the best place to rest and avoiding any hawks that may fly over.
It has become evident in the recent weeks that we probably have 4 roosters who will serve to be served on plates.  Roosters are noisy and do not lay eggs...  That means we have 6 hens which is the exact number we wanted.  They tend to lay every 26 hours or so, so that should be somewhere around 3 dozen fresh eggs every week.  Chicken Information Here <----- you must have Google Wave.  Sorry.

This morning I had opportunity to talk to a coworker about the future and stuff.  He mentioned some smart guy that has a book and movie about the future of the world and how we will have technology that will make it possible to live 'forever' by the year 2040.  This is done be either cloning your body and having nano-bytes that can copy your 'information' in your brain and body and then transfer that 'data' into the new body (or anything else you would like to use) and you would continue your life from there.  It was all very interesting and after another coworker is done with the book, I may glance through it.  The book is a little anti-"religious" in that the guy believes that religions will deny his proclamations because religions have to have death in them in order to corner the market (or some language like that).  That doesn't bother me because he is free to be wrong.

I would be scarred to death to live forever, and here is why.  I think I would rather die than be here when the Lord returns.  I don't know all the details, but I have a weak stomach when out of my comfort zone, or during times of change, so I think I would be sick for as long as it takes from the Lord returning and me getting a new body.  Actually, I am a little bit escathologely (spell check failed) challenged.  Who knows, maybe I'll be called to a mission where it would benefit everybody to live a few hundred years or so.  If that is God's will, He can make it so without our technological advances... so, there ya go.

Figure Skating Practice

Bethany and I have been practicing our figure skating since the Olympics started.  Normally I would rather not figure skate with Bethany (or anyone), but just look at how much it makes Bethany smile in the video below.  Another four years and I think we will be ready for the winter Olympics and get at least a silver medal.

Throwable Panoramic Ball Camera

This thing is awesome! You have to watch the video below to see spiffy this thing is. It is basically a ball with 36 cameras inside of it that you throw straight up and then catch. That's it. The ball takes a picture that the highest point and you have yourself a 360 degree view with you at the bottom.

Neato isn't it?

Out of Debt

Dave Ramsey's website listed 29 ways to leap out of debt the other day. Read them here and then list in the comments which ones you are already doing and the ones you are going to start doing.

I (we, my wife and I) am doing: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 (in a nice way), 8, 9, (10 - we have no car debt) 11, 12, 13, 14 (six years and counting), 15 (almost every day), 16, 16 1/2 (still investing :), 18 (and now am debt free except the house), 19, 20, 24, 26 ;), 28.

I will be doing 29 soon. The others don't really apply to me or I don't need to do them at this point in my life. There is one thing that I would consider if it did not scare me to death, was cheap or free, and if Bethany would let me and I knew I would jump. See video below:

Jon McNaughton - One Nation Under God

From the video's description:

"One Nation Under God."

This simple phrase, added to the pledge of allegiance over 50 years ago has been the source of unbelievable debate and heated controversy. Likewise, the phrase 'In God We Trust' on our currency has been targeted and continues to be attacked as improper and politically incorrect. Lawsuits have been filed and legal minds employed to ascertain whether such statements violate the concept of 'separation of church and state'.

As this debate continues, some so called experts have implied or concluded that our Founding Fathers and Patriots were not religious. These secular champions, in an effort to further their own causes, have even painted these great men and women from our history as being devoid of religious passions or even a belief in God. This is a part of their strategy to remove any discussion of God from the public forum.

These men and women were passionately religious and saw the hand of God all around them. To God they gave Thanks for His Hand in the founding of this great nation. To Him, according to their own testimony they turned for wisdom and strength when life and liberty hung in the balance. Certainly the debate on separation of church and state will continue. But no one can dispute how our Founding Fathers and Patriots felt about God. The record is clear!

'One Nation Under God' is Jon McNaughton's witness and reminder that those who went before us knew from whence their blessings came!
