Rules for Reward Cards | www.clarkhoward.com
Dave Ramsey hates credit cards, but if you are going to be using them anyway, Clark Howard warns that rewards cards trick the brain to think that the rewards are a good reason to spend more. Sure you can make it work (one caller has), but is it worth it? People smarter than me do not think so. Use cash. From experience, it seems like you are really losing money when you pull a twenty dollar bill out of your wallet and break it to pay for a $4.00 coffee. If you set up your budget and include some spending money, take it out as cash and then only use that cash on things for yourself, and keep in the back of your mind that every dollar that is left in your wallet at the end of the month can go into your savings account or go to pay off your minivan.
