History: The Downtown Library is the oldest branch in the St. Joseph Public Library system, which was founded in 1890. The Downtown Library opened on March 13, 1902, and was originally built to house both the Public Library and School District Administrative offices; this is still true today. We are separate entities however, with the School District owning the building. The beautiful and historic Downtown Library boasts a terrazzo floor in the foyer, glass floored balcony, marble, wonderful frieze and ceiling moldings showcasing a stunning stained glass dome, all in a beaux arts architectural style. Come visit us."

Visiting James Hartigan

I took a trip to Mount Mora Cemetery thinking that James W Hartigan (for whom the house I am living in was built) would be buried there, however it turns out he is buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery. So the first five photos below were taken at Mount Mora and then the Hartigan photos and the Joseph Robidoux memorial photo were taken at Mount Olivet. It was a beautiful day to be at the cemeteries: all cold, wet and dreary.
